The Medical Mission’s 5 kilometer race and 800 meter “fun run” is being sponsored by King Financial Corporation and is for both serious runners and those who are looking for a casual day in the park. This Concord 5k run will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Frank Liske Park in Concord and all are invited to come cheer on our community of runners and walkers who are supporting a good cause.
Remember, anyone can participate in the race at their own pace. The 800 meter fun run is free and will be for children 12 years of age and under. By joining others on race day, you will be helping Tenwek Hospital located approximately 200 miles southwest of Nairobi, Kenya. Proceeds will benefit the 300-bed hospital and provide health care and mission outreach services in the region. Each year the hospital also helps to train outstanding Kenyan doctors, nurses, and chaplains, who serve throughout Africa.

For many, the Concord 5k run is competitive and will utilize Agape Timing to keep track of runners’ paces. Special awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers. But there is a distinct casual approach taken by most others and medals and shirts will be handed out to all registered participants.
Steve Bruggeling of Concord, NC created the Concord 5k run as a way to raise money for this Christian mission already impacting millions in Africa. The Christian hospital offers medical services to those who might not otherwise have access to modern healthcare. The hospital is one of the only surgery centers in a region of more than 8.5 million people. The hospital’s dedicated staff members – including permanent staff, short-term visiting staff, and medical missionaries – care for some 14,000 inpatients annually and perform thousands of surgeries. In addition, more than 120,000 outpatients are treated annually in the areas of dental care, HIV follow-up, intestinal disorders and injuries.
