Brian King aspires to win Cabarrus County’s highest dance honor in November.

The event is modeled after the popular Dancing with the Stars TV program for the purpose of raising money for the Cabarrus Arts Council. Community leaders have been working with professional dancers to perfect their best dance moves while learning new choreography that will make them standouts among a crowd of contenders.

The Cabarrus Arts Council promotes the arts in and around Concord, NC and maintains an active calendar of events that includes programs at the Davis Theatre and The Galleries while also organizing North Carolina’s largest school arts education programs in both Cabarrus County and Kannapolis City school systems. The Cabarrus Arts Council also supports local artists and organizations through grants and workshops, bridging the gap between corporate and public funding for these programs.

Last year’s judges for the Dancing for the Arts competition included notable community leader Diane Honeycutt, Jane Jacobs, who appeared in the 1989 film, Shag, and Dan Truhitte, a singer and dancer best known as Rolf in the movie, The Sound of Music.

The Dancing for the Arts Soirée will be filled with fun and entertainment. Here’s the schedule:

  • 6:00 p.m. – Light appetizers and drinks will be served at the Davis Stage
  • 8:00 p.m. – Brian King and other dancers will perform to the critical eye of the public and judges, with a dramatic finishing presentation of the Grand Price
  • 10 p.m. – Party continues for winners, losers and audience.
